USA Historic Preservation Tour — Historically Preserved Rock Formations in Colorado!

Restored Old Homes in Historic Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs, Colorado

Prior to arriving in Colorado Springs we had to traverse the Great Plains of Midwest America. You can really see how they came to be called that.  Endless expanses of wide open space!  You could almost see the buffalo herds roaming the plains as they used to in days gone by, with Indian hunters in fast pursuit!  And imagine what it must have been like for new settlers coming across the plains in wagons to make their home there and start a new life! Now that would take some courage. Today this is cattle grazing country mainly as it is too dry to grow crops.  One could see the odd ranch house from time to time, but otherwise is was just the plains, the sky and the wind . . .

Sitting at an elevation of 6000 feet, Colorado Springs and its neighboring historic hub of Manitou Springs in Colorado, are wonderful alpine get-aways with snow peaked mountains and unique rock formations. There is an amazing variety of charming homes, including classic Spanish and Arts and Crafts bungalows, Victorians, Queen Anns as well as Tudors.  We decided this was the perfect place to kick back and relax for a couple of days before we continued at break-neck speed to California.

Bruce found a great place for us to stay through Air B&B, (an online service where homeowners from all over the world rent space in their homes to guests) which was described as a “tree house”, with patio, outdoor hot tub and mountain views. We decided it was irresistible and while our room was not actually in a tree, one got the idea that you were actually up there in the pines.

Before leaving Colorado Springs we visited the famous Garden of the Gods.  It is quite amazing with stunning colors. Very inspiration for landscape paintings.

This was the sunset from our “tree house” on Sunday night. The next morning we hit the road before dawn so as to make up for lost travel time!
