Commissioned Landscape Painting

Landscape Painting of South Pasadena Scene

I was recently commissioned to paint this scene from an amazing photo that a client of mine took looking up Fair Oaks Avenue in South Pasadena. You can see the intersection of Rollin Street and Fair Oaks Avenue in the foreground.  This photo was taken a couple of years ago after a cold snap which whitened the San Gabriel Mountains that loom up in the distance.

The painting was a lot of fun.  It is a large one – 30 x 40 inches – that now hangs in a beautiful enclosed patio in South Pasadena.   It was a nice change creating a big acrylic painting and I intend to do more.  As much as I love doing architectural paintings and capturing homes in pen and watercolor, this has inspired me to paint some of the beautiful landscape photos I have of New Zealand and other gorgeous landscapes I have photographed through our travels across the USA.

The one photo I had for this painting is below. As you can see I used a little bit of artistic license, but that’s part of the creative process. I used acrylic paint for the painting as it is very hardy and  even though it will not be directly exposed to the elements, this is the best medium to use.  Once the paint has settled in within a couple of weeks I will additionally coat it with a protective vanish.

Catch you later,
