Original Watercolor Paintings of Homes across the USA
I am catching up with a couple of weeks of portraits here. We will start our house portrait tour this week in California. Who says Southern California doesn’t have seasons? Take a look at this cute cottage in Burbank that is bursting with the charm and color of Spring.
You can tell that I am working on my Burbank house portrait series right now. Below is another Burbank home, this time a stunning Spanish Bungalow that was built around the 1930’s. The owners have done a wonderful job with this home. I was especially attracted to what I am calling the Ivy covered “front turret”, the entrance arches and the castle-like roof line. Quite unique.
Close to the City of Burbank, is Glendale, also famous for its eclectic mix of architectural styles and with a full array of interesting homes. The home below called to me to include it in my Glendale series as it was the only historic French Normandy home I could find in this area. The homeowner told me there are in fact a couple more so I will be going exploring again to find them!
South-west from Burbank and Glendale in the Greater LA area is the city of Brentwood, nestled in the Crestwood Hills. Take a look at this cute cottage below with its welcoming archway. I particularly loved the colors the homeowner chose for her home. The painting is of course now proudly displayed in the entrance way.
We now move south of LA to San Diego. Close to the Mexican border, San Diego has in my opinion one of the best collections of Craftsman homes in the country. Mission Hills San Diego is the historic hub for these homes. This one below is no exception. This home stood out to me as it also has a coastal-beach look with its classic blue-grey Craftsman shingle siding and white trim. The lovely stonework is a perfect addition.
The tour this week heads north east. Take a look at these lovely historic Victorian row house right on Capitol Hill, Washington DC.
And here to add to the Washington DC mix, is a beautiful Italianate home below. This one really caught my eye being that the rich colors of the home blend so perfectly with the surroundings. The owners now have the original painting on display in their home.
The final home below is one in the City of Chevy Chase, Maryland. It is an interesting Tudor with a mix of stone and wooden decorative supports.
