Modern homes are fun and artistic too!
I don’t get too many requests for commissions of more modern homes and buildings so I always enjoy them when they come my way. From time to time folks ask me for examples of some of my modern homes so I have collected up a few to put into this post.
Lets start with a REALLY modern building that I was recently commissioned to do in Burbank, CA. Rather than giving the existing building a face lift (excuse the pun) this one was a newly constructed. It is the home of the Plastic Surgery Center of Burbank.

Still in Burbank but at the other end of the spectrum, with this cute renovated home that features edgy modern elements that give it curb appeal and make it stand out in the Burbank ranch home crowd. This is the first time I have ever seen someone paint their chimney black which of course matches great with their charcoal black roof. Pretty cool. And that’s how I noticed it and decided to make it part of my Burbank series.

Then there is the classic newly built home, such as this one in La Canada, CA. It has Tudor elements but is made functional with a large home for the cars as well. It has attractive landscaping and is located in a lovely tree-filled neighborhood. I definitely would not mind living in this house!

Here is a great example of a modern Mediterranean style home. When in southern Italy I noticed quite a few similar looking homes. This one however can be found in the beach community of Santa Monica, CA.

And also on the Pacific Coast, not that far from Santa Monica is the city of Oxnard. The owner of this beautifully appointed townhouse (the corner one) commissioned me to do this painting. As you can see I chose to capture it showing the magic of the sunset.

Moving south east we travel to Riverside with this really interesting home perched atop of Indian Hill Road. To me it has a Native America feel to it. It was a fun commission project!

And there is a great example of a “modern Craftsman” home in Minnesota. Another commission, this time as a surprise gift for a sibling. The gift giver lives in Pasadena CA and has a beautiful historic Craftsman home that I have painted.

And just for some variety. This home is really not that modern, but it has what we commonly call a “modern architectural style” with its square upright forms. It think it is pretty neat, a hybrid of beach and outdoor styles. Situated in Virginia Beach, this was also a commission and is the childhood home for a client of mine in Arlington, VA. The client asked me to make high quality prints of the painting for his parents and siblings as well.

That’s it from me on this post.
