Why not make your living from your art?
While the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the world in unprecedented ways, one of the hardest hit sectors is the global arts community. Museums had to close their doors. Concerts, art festivals and individual shows which so many artists rely on, were suddenly cancelled. Regrettably the end is not in sight.
Not only am I fortunate to work mainly from home, but by increasing my marketing efforts I continued to receive commission requests for my architectural art from around the country. After achieved my goal of creating paintings of homes and historic buildings in all 50 states, I used the lockdown period to compile a coffee table book which documents that journey.
However, my heart aches for fellow artists who have not fared as well. I have always been vehemently opposed to the “starving artist” lie. Some years ago I founded The Flourishing Artist, and in each city I have lived around the USA, I would form a loose-knit community of artists whom I would mentor and support. This included workshops and group exhibitions for emerging artists.
I recently decided I needed to do more to help artists. Since starting my art career a decade ago, I have had the advantage of understanding the business side of the art world and have successfully used marketing and promotion to create a niche market and get my art out into to the world.
Unfortunately, the needed business skills are not something taught to artists in academic circles. While my artistic skills are self-taught, I have been fortunate to have a basic road map to follow every step of my artistic journey and I attribute much of my success to the knowledge and application of the Hubbard® Management System.
I therefore decided to join forces with other artists who have also found success using this system and together we formed Effective Management Association (EMA) Artists USA. Dedicated to helping artists to flourish and prosper, EMA Artists USA has the purpose to unite, support and inspire artists across the USA through application of the Hubbard® Management System, which is based on the works of humanitarian, artist and administrator, L. Ron Hubbard.
Members of EMA Artists USA are members of WISE, a membership organization made up of entrepreneurs, business executives and professionals from every corner of every continent on Earth. Established in 1979, WISE serves to unite all individuals and organizations that use the Hubbard Administrative Technology in the world of commerce.
The WISE membership is organized into local chapters called “Effective Management Associations” or “EMAs”. Under the banner of WISE, EMAs focus on uniting and training business executives, entrepreneurs, rising senior managers and employees at every level with the proven methods, insights and resources to grow their business consistently, year after year.
What does EMA Artists USA offer its members?
We regularly share insights, tips and quotes from the writings of Mr. Hubbard.
Members study the basic administrative teachings of the Hubbard Management System and team up with other members to help each other put those principles into use.
We offer individual mentoring to artists from others who successfully use the Hubbard® Management System in their art career.
We provide a monthly newsletter which includes news and activities about EMA Artists USA.
Monthly webinars are given by artists and marketing professionals relating to the topic of successfully making a stable living from ones art.
